Soroti East Parliamentary by-election has continued to attract big names from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the opposition.
Latest to throw her weight behind the NRM candidate Edmund Ariko, is Vice President Jessica Alupo, also Woman MP-Katakwi District.
Alupo got into the campaigns on Saturday calling for continued unity and peace.
“Let this election unite us, Let us continue on the path of socio-economic transformation and services for our people, let Soroti be known for its forward thinking, as we head to the polls”. The Vice President made the remarks this morning, while meeting mzee Gregory Egunyu, the chairperson of the Taskforce for candidate Herbert Ariko, the NRM flagbearer.
The meeting attended by among others-Ministers Gen Jeje Odong, Musa Echweru, Asamo Helen, Adoa Helen, Okasai Opolot, and several MPs also attracted former contestants for the same seat, but who, in the NRM spirit of cohesion, stepped down for Ariko.
“We are here as leaders of Teso, united in purpose to speak to the people so they can vote for the NRM candidate”, the VP said, in her brief remarks, before embarking on the campaign rally at Otatai village, Akisim ward, Soroti East constituency.
Ariko is hotly competing with the Forum for Democratic Change’s Moses Atan.
