Unidentified number of people have been reported dead after River Nabuyonga burst its banks following the heavy downpour yesterday.
Floods have been reported in most parts of Mbale City after the rain caused the untold sufferings.
Photos posted on different social media platforms show water washing away houses and other properties, including vehicles and animals.
“Guys I have just received a call that Busamaga has flooded too and lost of property have been taken with the water and some people are missing after their houses have been put down,” Busiku Swaibu a radio presenter at IUIU FM posted on his social media pages. He said that this particulry happenned in Busamaga behind Livingston University and Ahamidya hospital.
Rogers Wandulu a Marketier of Elgon Coffee also posted that, “Situation at IUIU primary, fisheries land flooded, the marrum put by the land grabbers taken, cross with care, don’t send children there, waters are increasing, worried of our people in hilly areas, this is Noah’s times rain,”
Wandulu added that, “A boda boda rider carrying two and two others including UPDF officer were drowned this morning at around URA check point and the UPDF is on search and have recovered four bodies in a river behind Oxford high, the body of UPDF offer not yet recovered. may God have mercy”
He asked that, “How safe is that side, please keep us updated, if your in the mountains, please slope down,”
Wandulu said that it’s time for what he called “this corrupt government,” to feel it, and plan for it’s citizens well, urban authorities that approve construction plans in swamps and River banks, streams, the owner of this; Earth God has exposed you.
“You eat our money for disaster preparedness and relief, now let’s see how you sweat helping thousands of affected households, in African traditional setting, God expressed his anger through floods , famine and sickness, so the sins are gross especially our leaders have sinned most, God is not happy with us people like Ahmada Washiaki will never go to heaven. We pray for affected families, relocate because the skies remain annoyed with rains coming, call your relatives and friends and find out how they are and accommodate some if they are in a risky affected areas. These floodings have a lesson to us,”
