On Monday, Mania Media learnt that students under the Faculty of Engineering at Kyambogo University have woken up to a gruesome moment with information indicating that their results of a course unit, research methods will not be released for what has been termed as over excelling. The affected students range from those doing Bachelor of Industrial Engineering and Management (BIEM) to Bachelor of Environmental Engineering and Management (BEEM)
This followed a complaint lodged in by the former faculty dean Engineering a one Dr. Catherine Wandera against the excellent performance with an argument that the victims are not academically good enough to put up such an outstanding performance as compared to hers, whose students’ results was completely in shambles.
In his communication to the course coordinators; Dr.Okaka Wilson whose group allegedly performed beyond expected, called upon the coordinators to collect the marked scripts from atleast 10 students both boys and girls which shall then be shared with the administrators for further verification.
Wilson further says his students went through the most unprecedented learning, teaching, research training, mentoring, practical exercises and international participation which tantamounts to the good performance as portrayed by the scores.
To this effect, the angry students earlier today were heard asking for clarity as to why anyone would question their capabilities to excel having gone through the most reliable and efficient processes of learning with various assessments.
Munyona Sulah a forth year student of Industrial and Management Engineering says it’s so disheartening for a senior lecturer to undermine all their efforts indulged in academics. “Dr. Catherine has completely no moral authority to question our ability to excel given the extra obligations we have fulfilled as required” Munyona told Media.
However course coordinators of the affected categories are engaging relevant authorities to have students results released as soon as they possibly can. ” We believe by tomorrow the issues will be resolved but if all the consultative efforts don’t yield, we shall resort to other methods. Students should be considered as the biggest stakeholders not beggars” one of the concerned students who preferred anonymity noted.
