The police in Nwoya district are probing the sudden death of Charles Ochakacon, the Division Prisons Commander attached to Amuru and Nwoya districts.
The 54-year-old officer reportedly collapsed and died moments later on Thursday evening at Continental bar and lodge in Purongo town council, Nwoya district.
Cosmas Adyebo, the manager of Continental bar and lodge in a report to the police noted that the deceased had booked a room for two days after arriving on Wednesday.
He told police in a statement that the deceased had spent part of the night with a girlfriend in his room but she left him at around 1:30am Thursday morning.
According to police reports, on Thursday morning, Ochakacon went to a restaurant operated by the girlfriend purportedly to take tea but instead bought an illicit local gin and took it before returning to his room.
Ochakacon reportedly ate food at lunchtime served by the same girlfriend but by 6pm as he came out of the lodge, he collapsed and died.
The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident on Friday saying the deceased was pronounced dead on arrival at Jang Lacor Clinic where he was rushed for emergency medical treatment.
Mudong says police detectives have cordoned off the lodge where the deceased died adding that statements have been recorded from relevant witnesses for investigation.
He notes that scene of crime officers are also making arrangements to secure samples of the food and the local gin the deceased took to aid further investigation.
Mudong says the body has been taken to Anaka General Hospital morgue for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of his death.
He notes that the police have arrested and detained the girlfriend identified as Flavia Adongo at Nwoya Central Police station for interrogation.
