Mania Media has learnt that farmers in Nyaruhanga cell, Kigara Parish in Kamwezi sub county, Rukiga district are out in the cold following heavy rains that destroyed several acres of crop gardens.
The heavy rain comprised of floods, strong winds, hailstorms that started at 4pm and lasted for 3 hours destroyed gardens of beans (Misingiriro), coffee, groundnuts and banana plantations among others.
Banet Myongo a farmer who specializes on tomato farming says that his garden estimated at Ugx 5 million has been smashed off by the heavy rain. Myongo confirmed to our reporter that it will become too expensive to recover the destroyed part as at times he uses loans obtained from banks.
Bisigwaho Moses and Boy Polito also said that their crops plantations had not been spared thus calling upon the government to come for their rescue.
This follows another incident where rainfall caused floods and swept away bridges, Roads and crops/gardens in other parts of Rukiga district, leaving communities in big losses.
